I've been rescuing non-stop for 10 years. Sure I've taken a week or two off here and there, but really haven't had a real break during that time. I've rescued over 1000 cats during that time, with your help, fostering, donations and volunteer time. But I've done a lot of it by myself too.
To be completely honest and transparent, I am burned out. I've felt this way for a few months now, and kept taking in cats anyway because I just didn't want to say no. But that's not healthy for me or the cats. I know that if I don't take a break, a real break, now, I may decide to stop rescuing altogether.
So to avoid that I've decided to pause intake for 6 months. I still have 13 cats here in the shelter. Some are lifers because they're feral and not adoptable, but I will still work on getting the adoptable ones placed. I just need to regroup, figure out the direction Wayward is heading in and spend some time taking care of my emotional, mental and physical health.
I am so thankful for each and every one of you- your support, donations, and time. The last thing I want is to stop doing Wayward, but I need a break so I don't get to that point. I hope you all understand.

12-1-2018 - 2-28-2019: We were so lucky to be selected as the nonprofit supported by the Greller Gallery this year! Patti Schermerhorn is an incredible artist and donated a portion of the proceeds of her artwork to Wayward! The Wayward Shelter is Officially Open!

After a year of construction, we were finally able to move our cats into the shelter! Our building features a quarantine room with six large stainless steel kennels, an open area adoption room and an outdoor enclosure where the cats in the adoption area can explore the great outdoors!

Wayward Whiskers was selected to participate in the first ever Bexar County High School Film Festival! We partnered with the amazing students and teachers of Central Catholic High School to create a promotional video. We hope you like it!
